Geometric Knit & Crochet Inspiration

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven

My hands, and my yarn stash, need a few days to rest after crocheting and typing the year away. Of course, this so-called “rest” won’t last long. My mind is already churning with new holiday decoration ideas and knit projects that I have been itching to work on. I will definitely make a few handmade gifts this year but I really want to take some time and start a few projects just for me.

I keep stumbling upon inspiring geometric knit and crochet projects around the internet. When I spotted the mittens at the top I immediately wanted to try a similar geometric pattern on a basic mitten. Oh, and the last blanket? Stunning. Stripes, hexagons, and color-blocking? So good.

What are you working on at the moment? Are you already in holiday mode or are you taking some time to working on something just for you? If you have any pattern suggestions or project ideas, please share. I plan to work on some new projects this weekend!

Happy Friday to you!

Beautiful colors and patterns! I’m thinking on a lot of new projects but still knitting on my hexapuff blanket.

  2. Amy G says:

I’m trying to alternate between Christmas gift projects and self projects right now. I want to get ahead on gifts, but I’m not ready to go into all-out gift making mode yet.

  3. Ana BC says:

Wonderful geometric inspiration! I am working on some Baktus scarves at the moment. Lots of fun too, playing with colors and textures 😉

  4. J says:

I’m finally working on a project for myself! Just a simple scarf, but I’m using some gorgeous Kool-Aid dyed merino yarn from my friend’s farm. Who knew a cruddy sugary beverage could make such a beautiful shade of sea green?

  5. Earlier this week, I posted about some fun crochet/knitting projects that I wanted to try lately. They all had some great fall colors, but I really love the knit vest that I found…http://www.lovecityblog.com/2013/11/yarn-love-fall-colors.html. Although, I don’t quite have the knitting skills to pull it off. I love the geometric shapes/designs as well! But, they look a little daunting to try! Any suggestions on a good video or tutorial to practice my color work?

  6. Kate says:

I really need to learn how to knit properly ^_^ There are so many wonderful patterns and so much inspiration around, I can’t wait to be able to make something so beautiful. I’m just working on a little circular crocheted throw for my bedroom and it’s so exciting that it’s nearly done!

  7. I am busy getting my crocheted Technicolor Blankets written up, photographed and listed on my web sites. Busy, but fun busy!

Love all the photos today and that little pom pom is so cute.

  8. Pammymela says:

Love it – I’ve been pinning similar items and colours and have been wondering how I could get a stripe across a hexagon. That you for the inspiration!

  9. J says:

Love that first sweater! Enjoy your “rest” I know that I can’t sit projectless for long either!

Love that optical illusion sweater. I haven’t made a sweater yet, but I plan on making one soon, perhaps with all those wonderful parallelograms! Thanks for sharing 😀

  11. CJ says:

I’m making a red and black football scarf for my littlest boy to wear to support his brothers when they play. Not my favourite kind of knitting, but he will be so thrilled when it’s done, it will all be worth it. It’s giving me some time to think about what I want to make next. A shawl maybe.

  12. Frances says:

Geometry is such fun to incorporate into textiles, particularly knitting, where a “plain” design is just knit a row, purl a row. Let’s mix it up with colors zig-zagging, textures making pathways, all sorts of thing.s If you add some bobble stitches you’ll be entering 3-D territory.

  13. Joi Smith says:

I love these designs/patterns! Thank you for this post!!

  14. Signe Savant says:

If only I had the patience to use the tiny needles necessary to knit/crochet these designs! I’m not quite there yet, but I am in full holiday crafting swing! It’s amazing how as soon as November rolls around, everyone wants scarves, hats, etc.! I’m up to my ears in orders!

  16. I’m SUPER excited for my handmade Christmas gifts this year. I’m knitting wide but shorter scarves, to be worn around the neck and gathered closer to the shoulder, off toward the side. Each scarf will be fastened with a vintage lapel pin. Yay!
