Weekend Coffee + Friends + Exploring Bishop Arts

I just love the Bishop Arts District in Dallas. I feel like I blog about this area all the time! It is just my favorite place to explore, eat, and escape. I went there on Saturday with a few friends who had never been to the neighborhood before. I was excited to show them around a bit and take them to my favorite spots!

– We went to Oddfellows for brunch. I had the green chile scramble and it was delicious. My friend Anna ordered the pancakes and they were HUGE. Two pancakes the size of a plate. Thankfully she was kind enough to let us help her out and try a few bites.

– One of my favorite shops in the area is Dirt Design Studio. They create beautiful floral arrangements and I am always inspired when I look at their displays. I just love their flower-filled bicycle basket.

– We also looked through the Ginger Fox art gallery. I loved this piece made entirely of old pencils!

– As we walked from shop to shop I experienced some serious bike envy. I spotted so many cute bikes parked on the sidewalk! One day…

– This mural outside of the open air furniture shop made me smile. I love the colors.

It was such a great day that I completely forgot to leave my crochet coffee yarn bomb behind at Oddfellows. Brunch is really busy and the crowds might have intimidated me a bit. Also, after waiting about an hour for our table I think the main goal was to get some food and enjoy the air conditioning. Haha. Now I have another excuse to go back, right?

How was your weekend? Did you explore any of your favorite local spots?

  1. J L says:

Looks like you had a fantastic time. Makes me sad that I didn’t get to visit there on my trip to Dallas – next time though for sure!x

  2. Erica says:

That pencil art! WOW, so cool!

    • meredith says:

I know! The artist had more pieces inside the gallery that were just as amazing, all made of pencils, erasers, and rulers. So creative!

  3. Mom Wald says:

The Bishop Arts District is one of our favorite places to spend some “girl time”!

  4. kristin says:

such stunning photographs! thanks for this sweet peek.

  5. The closest I’ve gotten to the BAD is serving jury duty at the JV detention center that is close by. It was such a stressful experience I just had no energy to stop by. :( One of these days…..

  6. Emma Wright says:

It sounds like a lovely place to enjoy a day out, my favourite place our local garden centre with a delicious restaurant, farmers market, chocolate truffle and old fashioned sweet shop. Of course, lovely flowers too :) x

  7. Becca says:

The Arts District looks wonderful, lucky to you to live near enough to visit. I had a quiet local weekend – the nearby country park and the park. All very tame, but nice all the same.

  9. Mana says:

I love that first bike, it’s such a pretty shade of pink.

  10. Natasha says:

That pencil artwork is so cool. We had a really busy weekend. We had a friend over for dinner, went to a birthday party and my boyfriend’s parents visited. One of our local restaurants has a 50% off sushi special, so we’ve been eating there a lot 😀

  11. eskimo*rose says:

Woah – I want those pencils on my new workstation wall! I am also lusting after those bikes, I am now the only person in our family who doesn’t have a bike (except my little one, but she rides on my husbands bike still!), and we want to do some family bike rides, so I’ve been doing a bit of research on eBay. The other day, my 10 year old boy caught me looking at some beautiful old vintage bikes, his reaction: “You are no way getting one of those mum, I would NEVER ride with you, it would be sooooo embarrassing” – he was deadly serious and told me I should be looking at cool mountain bikes! I’m pretty sure for the type of riding we’ll be doing, a lovely old vintage bike would be fine, what do I do!?!?! I still haven’t worked out the answer!

    • meredith says:

Aww! Haha. Your son sounds adorable! There are some mountain bikes that are a bit more colorful and fun. Maybe you can find a style that is in the middle that will be less “embarrassing” for your little boy? Or just go for it and get the bike of your dreams! :)

  12. My friends and I have been wanting to visit the arts district for some time! Any places/sights you’d suggest we see (for free :D)?

  13. Le Explorer says:

    Really lovely post, looks great.

    I love your pictures!

  14. Such cute little snapshots! I particularly love the flowers and the bike! Come on a pink bike! I need one, it’s so motivating even when i don’t feel like risking my life all the way through Paris to go to work! Perfect!

    • meredith says:

Haha! I’ve only visited Paris once and I remember the traffic was pretty hectic. However, biking through Paris to go to work sounds like an absolute dream! I’m sure it can get old/scary when cars are coming at you from every direction! Yikes.
